Ruaumoko Art Exhibition

RUAUMOKO

An Exhibition of Artworks by Uku (Clay) Artists & Uhi (Tattoo) Artists

Ruaumoko the god of earthquakes and volcanic activity, and youngest child of Ranginui (sky) & Papatuanuku (earth). His restlessness while in Papatuanuku's womb caused the deep uneven grooves and ridges on her surface terrain. scarring the earth and creating the first sacred forms of Moko (tattoo).

The kaupapa/theme of this exhibition is to acknowledge the whakapapa/connection between the uku & uhi artforms, with references to our local volcanic landscape and history here in Tamaki Makaurau and the more recent earthquakes & volcanic activity both here in Aotearoa and globally which the artworks are based on.
